One of the main challenges in multi-brick catalytic converter assemblies is maintaining a constant gap between the substrates. Thermal expansion and other operational factors cause many traditional solutions, such as stamped Inconel clamps, to shift during use; allowing exhaust gasses access to mat edges which causes erosion.
ACS Industries, Inc. Mid-Bed Shields are essentially end seals for inter-brick spaces. In addition to cushioning the system from road-load and other operational stresses, these compressed knitted wire mesh elements also absorb thermal expansion differences between system components, allowing the catalytic converter to expand and contract with no risk of shifting out of place.
