Wire drawing is a metalworking process used to reduce the cross-section of a wire by pulling it through a single die, or a series of drawing dies. The wire is pulled through the die, which has a hole in the center, reducing its diameter and increasing its length.
ACS’ innovative wire drawing processes produce the highest quality wire products. Starting with 5.5mm (0.217”) “raw” wire rod in various alloys, we can draw down the wire to diameters as fine as 0.043mm (0.0017”). We primarily employ diamond dies in wire drawing, ensuring compliance and consistency. We also help customers save money and improve lead times by drawing down our own wire in-house. At ACS, we work to control the entire wire drawing process from start to finish, and by doing so, we do not place orders for “finished” fine wire. It is a significant advantage over competitors, who rely on outside suppliers for wire.
All wire pulled by ACS goes through a Meltec annealing furnace in order to achieve greater uniformity and strength.
